New Orleans is the cultural centre of Louisiana, straddling the great Mississippi River in the heart of the River Valley. Laid back and eclectic, this city offers a unique blend of French, Spanish, and American culture, leisure, and cuisine. Music is at the very heart of everything you see in New Orleans, from exhibitions and bars playing legendary blues and jazz to the infamous Mardi Gras celebration. The French Quarter retains its historic charms, buildings, and gardens and is the place to be to sample the famous Creole cuisine. To immerse yourself in the irresistible beat of New Orleans, take a stroll down Bourbon Street and hear pianos, blues guitars, and zydeco music.

Baton Rouge, USA, Louisiana

Baton Rouge is the state capital of Louisiana and is highly regarded as an important deepwater port on the Mississippi River. The city was named in 1699 after a red cypress post – otherwise known as baton rouge – marked a boundary between the Houma and Bayougoula Indians. There are many historic buildings here including the Audubon State Historic Site & Oakley House, the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion, and a museum which stands at the point where the old State Capitol once stood. This museum was constructed of marble and other stone minerals brought in from various parts of the world. It stands 450 feet high and houses 34 floors, with features including an ornate Memorial Hall and observation tower.

Oak Alley, USA, Louisiana

A quarter mile canopy of giant live oak trees forms the impressive avenue which gives Oak Alley Plantation its name. Situated between the historic cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Oak valley is located along the Mississippi River. The Plantation itself consists of an impeccable and stunningly designed Greek revival style antebellum home. Recently restored to its original glory, Oak Alley leaves a noble and impressive mark on this glorious River Region.
