Capital city of France’s Alsace region, Strasbourg is situated on the Rhine at the German border. After arriving this morning, enjoy either a panoramic bus tour or guided bike tour that will take you past the Orangery, the town’s oldest park, the European Parliament and the Place de la Republique. Afterwards, explore on foot with a walking tour of the lovely “La Petite France” neighborhood, where you will see the Gothic cathedral with its famous astronomical clock. You also have the option of exploring Strasbourg on a guided hike that begins at the Orangery and makes its way to the cathedral. The remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish before the ship departs tonight.
Arrive in Mannheim, where you have a choice of either visiting the city’s famed Baroque Palace or joining a walking tour of Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities, known for its cathedral, numerous churches and the medieval Altpörtel (Old Gate). Continue on to Rüdesheim, where tonight you will enjoy an exclusive wine tasting.
Your exploration of Rüdesheim continues with your choice of one of three excursions: a gondola ride above the town to see the Niederwalddenkmal Statue followed by a wine tasting with a local vintner; a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, home to a remarkable collection of old robotic and self-playing musical instruments; or a half-day excursion to the historic university town of Heidelberg, where you will visit the red-walled castle with its Great Vat (a 49,000-gallon wine cask) and enjoy beautiful views of the Neckar Valley and city below. Afterwards, you’ll cruise to the metropolitan capital of Germany, Frankfurt, where you’ll take in the sights on a panoramic city tour. Tonight, immerse yourself in local flavors with an authentic Romerberg beer tasting.
Located at the foot of the Taunus Mountains and at the heart of the Rhine River is the town of Rudesheim. Being in the Rhine Gorge, Rudesheim is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a historic winemaking town. Not only does the wine make this town worth visiting, but the Old Town itself and the picturesque Rheingau landscape and the romantic Rhine River itself.
Wake up in Miltenberg this morning and either join a walking tour of this delightful old town, with its narrow cobblestone streets and steeply gabled houses, or indulge in a tasting of local specialties.
This morning’s guided tour of Würzburg will show you all of the city’s major sights, or you may prefer to visit the Residenz Palace and gardens, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You also have the option to participate in a local wine tasting.
Arrive this afternoon in enchanting Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you will have one of three ways to explore. The first is a guided walking tour of this medieval gem to see its cathedral, Old Town Hall and elegant old mansions, as well as sample some of Bamberg’s famous smoked beer. The second is a guided bike tour along the Main River, and the third is a Bamberg Specialties tasting where you will enjoy smoked beer, licorice root and Hornla, a local favorite whose recipe dates back to 1427. This evening, we continue cruising towards Nuremberg.
Depart the ship after breakfast and return home.
